Flower Description

One of the axil blooming goldenrods

  • 1.5-3′ tall and unbranched or sparingly branched
  • Central smooth tapering stem leans over to one side, light green when young to blue gray or burgundy gray as it ages
  • Central and lateral stems have 5″long x 3/4″ across alternate elliptic-oblong leaves that get smaller as they ascend the stem, dark green in color, hairless and sessile
  • Prominent central vein in leaf, faint lateral veins
  • Small axil clusters of 1-12 flowerheads with terminal cluster up to 3″ long and 1.5″ wide
  • Flowers 1/8″ across, with 4-5 ray florets and 4-5 disk florets on short pedicles with 3 overlapping bracts
